Program Assistance At Universal Humanitarian Aid Initiative (UHAI)

Universal Humanitarian Aid Initiative (UHAI) is a humanitarian and developmental non-governmental organization that insists the world can be changed positively so that everyone can live a normal life. UHAI works in Nigeria for profound change tackling the root cause of poverty, empowering people to have a brighter future, and creating an enabling environment for communities to exercise their capacities.  UHAI operates across Northeast Nigeria and has extensive experience in managing and monitoring emergency relief and rehabilitation actions both with local partners and directly. Universal Humanitarian Aids Initiatives has been working in Nigeria since 2017 implementing humanitarian and Developmental interventions across the Northeast even before its registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on 5th February 2023. UHAI is currently operating within Borno state which is located at the northeastern part of the country Nigeria. And across three thematic areas: Humanitarian and Sustainable Education in Emergencies, WASH, and Protection with gender and inclusion principles cutting across all thematic areas.

The organization is seeking for a qualified hand to handle the vacant position.

Job Title: Program Assistance
Location: Borno
Employee Status: Fixed Term
Report to: Program Officer

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Program Officers in conducting trainings to Universal Humanitarian Aid Initiative (UHAI) community volunteers, volunteer teachers and community education committees on the program deliverables.
  • Attend coordination meetings, whenever delegated.
  • Together with the Program Officer, ensure inclusion of protection principles like gender segregation, adaptation to meet the gender-specific and disablement needs, in the design and implementation of the program.
  • Organize and conduct focus group discussion on Education, Protection and Hygiene promotion related topics
  • Assist program officers to track program progress according to the developed schedule and work plan, including community mobilization, beneficiary registration, community sensitization and coordination in the target geographical locations.
  • Assist in promoting community participation including organizing for community meetings and inclusion so as to encourage community ownership over activities implemented and ensure equal representation of various community groups during implementation.

Operational Management:

  • Assist in organizing all logistics for trainings, workshops, events and other activities including flight bookings and procuring office supplies.
  • Assist in development of TORs and contracts for events and consultancies.
  • Provide ongoing support in maintaining these systems, problem-solving, and functioning as a focal point for communications with operations, human resources, and finance team.
  • Facilitate and organize all required meetings with internal departments as well as external contacts to communicate accurate and up-to-date information as and when required

Requirement and Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience is highly recommended
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal, intercultural and communication skills
  • 1-2 years of working experience.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain good relation with the local communities and project beneficiaries.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing and reporting
  • Excellent oral and written skills and computer skills
  • Fluency in English; fluency in Hausa is required.
