Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, private, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization. Our organization offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria since February 1996. A Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria facilitates this. We are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, State and Local Government departments of health on various health projects.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Pharmacy Technician

Main objective and Responsibility of the Position

  • Supporting the drug supply management in the designated facilities under the supervision of the Mission Pharmacy Manager of the project and according to MSF health policies and protocols, in order to contribute in the guarantee of the proper management and distribution of drugs and medical devices.

General Accountabilities

  • In cooperation with the Pharmacy Manager, assisting in the supervision, management and control of the medical stock in the project in order to avoid ruptures, losses and gross overstock of drugs and other supplies and overseeing and monitoring its storage conditions
  • In cooperation with the Pharmacy Manager, assisting on a monthly basis with preparation and approval of order requests, ensuring they are completed in timely manner to prevent unnecessary orders in between. Following up on drug ruptures.
  • In cooperation with the Pharmacy Supervisor and other MSF team members, assisting in the supervision, management, follow-up, and control of medical/supply stock in the MSF office, expat houses, and MSF cars. This includes physical count, ordering, and monitoring of expired dates.
  • Assisting with the collection of consumption from facilities on at least a monthly basis and collecting data about the number of patients. Cooperating with and assisting the Pharmacy Manager in all related monthly reports, and under the Pharmacy Manager’s supervision, communicating and providing medical data to relevant MSF team members
  • Improving and following up on the monitoring systems in place.
  • Supporting the MoH counterparts in their responsibilities regarding monitoring of drug consumption, stock management, and preparing/receiving orders.
  • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols, and alert the supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
  • Assisting in preparing and organizing training sessions for MSF and MoH staff.
  • Providing programs continuity during the supervisor’s absence and handovers; sharing knowledge of the program with incoming staff in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner

MSF Section / Context-Specific Accountabilities

  • Dispensing drugs to patients according to medical prescriptions, issuing of medical supplies to relevant units and providing information on keeping conditions in order to sustain their functional and therapeutic activities.
  • Ensure proper storage, stock management and supply processes, as well as hygiene and security procedures, tools, and protocols (controlling pests and rodents), in order to ensure good storage conditions (temperatures, humidity and light exposure) and availability of drugs and medical material. This will be done according to MSF protocols, and national regulations and in cooperation with the logistics department.
  • Maintain cold chain and promptly report abnormalities.
  • Ensure appropriate delivery, reception, and recording of local orders, in close collaboration with the logistics department, updating stock files and informing line managers on their status (shortfalls, over-stocking, expiry dates), in order to permanently ensure secure stock levels ensuring efficient management of stock.
  • Ensure correct entries on the stock cards and software
  • Prepare orders of the different consumption units (departments, wards, others), ensuring proper packaging and dispatching, reporting any anomalies or changes in consumption patterns to the Project Pharmacy Supervisor/Project Medical Referent. Also, inform Pharmacy Supervisor/Project Medical Referent as soon as stock reaches the alert limit.
  • Carry out regular inventories including EPREP stock.
  • Report missing materials/damage/robbery
  • Ensures appropriate storage of all items in the Pharmacy
  • Give timely advice on orders of medical and drug materials for the project in order to ensure an efficient and appropriate consumption pattern under budget constraints.
  • Ensure efficient supply to other units managed/supported by MSF according to orders and stocks, and maintain the cold chain when necessary.
  • Support in the day-to-day management of the pharmacy store in the ITFC and the EPREP store at the base. This includes tracking consumption and MSR.
  • Report on drug consumptions and medical equipment dispensed according to protocols, informing on unusual patterns as well as support Pharmacy Supervisor/Project Medical Referent in forecasting future needs, in order to rationalise the budget and to ensure availability.
  • Keep updated records of items received and issued.

Requirements / Qualifications
Education:

  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician with a Valid practicing license and up-to-date.

Experience:

  • Experience collaborating with local pharmacy systems (MoH and private) is an asset
  • Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting

Languages:

  • Mission language essential; local working language would be an asset

Knowledge:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good computer skills: MS Word, MS Excel

Gross Salary
NGN 289,164 monthly.
