Operations Manager, At The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC)

Location: Abuja, FCT

Employment Type: Full-time (1-year renewable Contract)
Reporting to: Head of Operations, PPDC.

Background

The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) is an organization established in 2003, with its headquarters located in Abuja, and focuses its interventions on promoting citizens’ participation in governance processes and strengthening transparency and accountability, while also improving ethics and integrity in the public and private sectors. PPDC is one of the leading organizations in civil society space in Nigeria dedicated to promoting wider public participation in procurement as a way to curb corruption, with more than 20 years’ experience in advocating and campaigning on integrity issues, especially in public procurement, contract implementation and public access to information. PPDC’s work focuses on:

  • Procurement Governance (PG)
  • Digital Governance (DG)
  • Access to Justice

PPDC also promotes open initiatives and open data standards, transparency and accountability, responsible climate transition and gender and inclusion.

Job Summary

The Operations Manager will oversee PPDC’s organizational processes, ensuring the efficient management of daily operations and alignment with strategic goals.

The role requires a dynamic professional capable of optimizing systems, managing resources, and driving operational excellence to support the organization’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the day-to-day operations of PPDC, ensuring seamless execution of projects and programs.
  • Develop and implement operational policies, processes, and procedures to enhance organizational efficiency.
  • Monitor organizational performance metrics and prepare regular progress reports for senior leadership.

2. Financial Management:

  • Work closely with the finance team to prepare and monitor budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.

3. Team Leadership and Development:

  • Supervise and mentor team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff.

4. Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, donors, and civil society partners.
  • Represent PPDC at external meetings, workshops, and conferences as required.

5. Risk and Compliance:

  • Identify operational risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure organizational resilience.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, and donor requirements.

6. Technology and Innovation:

  • Promote the adoption of technology and innovative solutions to streamline operations and enhance impact.
  • Collaborate with the technology team to leverage tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Management, Social Sciences, or a related field. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operations management or a similar role, preferably in the development sector.
  • Strong knowledge of governance and public sector operations in Nigeria is desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, resources, and multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience working with donor-funded programs and compliance requirements.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Capacity to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
