Goggoji Zumunchi Development Initiative (GZDI) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) legally registered in Nigeria and has been in existence for twelve (12) years. GZDI is on a mission to assist and enable women, children and youth especially those who are disadvantaged, vulnerable and marginalized in the Nigerian communities, overcome the issues of poverty, HIV/AIDS, Hunger, ill-health, and other challenges which they faced through enlightenment and empowerment activities.

Food Security Coordinator

Role Purpose:

Responsible for the delivery of a high-quality, efficient nutrition service to clients of GZDI and implement the nutrition component to the holistic care including nutrition assessment and promotion of healthy eating habits by suggesting diet modifications.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • S/he will be required to conduct sensitization and MUAC (middle upper arm circumference) screening of Pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and children under 5 years.
  • The nutrition assistant will screen, tally, register and coordinate the screening of children to verify their age at the distribution point; the nutrition screener/register additionally is required to train the Nutrition volunteers.
  • S/he will be tasked to report to the Food Security Coordinator on BSFP distribution update.
  • S/he the will be required to mainstream the nutritional activities in line with GZDI standards in his or her LGA with regards to Infant and Young Child feeding (IYCF) programs.
  • H/She will also provide guidance to LGA partners (IYCF Groups) on policy and methodologies to enhance service delivery at the Host community and camp level. 
  • The H/She is required to possess significant experience in inter-agency coordination in management of complex field-based operations and emergencies, good knowledge of program management and solid experience in technical field of BSFP.
  • H/She is expected to have competencies of a skillful leader in guiding and supporting staff, addressing various operational challenges, along with increasing security concerns. Given the stressful nature of Adamawa security situation, which remains fluid and unpredictable and its high interpersonal and communication skills demands, the nutrition Officer will need to be able to fit easily into a complex and highly operative team of various cultural backgrounds.
  • Contribute to the development of nutrition projects and activities, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider nutrition policies and guidance.
  • Provide project management support to specific and defined nutrition projects and activities, ensuring a coordinated approach with wider program/projects that complies with WFP standards and procedures.
  • Develop and co-ordinate data gathering and monitoring/assessment systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained.
  • Track and analyze data to provide input into reporting activities and contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on nutrition activities that enables informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
  • Liaise with implementing partners (internal and external) to monitor ongoing projects, ensuring effective collaboration, timeliness and efficiency, and highlight potential risks to project delivery.
  • Support the identification of potential partners and partnership negotiations to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to meeting nutrition needs.
  • Support the capacity building of GZDI staff, partners and national government to prepare for and respond to nutrition needs for example the production and review of training materials.
  • Guide more junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with more complex analysis and queries.
  • Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.

Any other duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  • Diploma in nutrition with minimum two years working experience with NGOs.
  • Working experience of one year in IMAM or Maternal and Child Health program.
  • Experience in nutrition program and community work.
  • Good relations with other people.
  • Good capacity to work in a team and flexibility.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good writing and presentation skills
  • English fluency (verbal and written) required and local language (preferred)
  • Experience working in a refugee context. 

Desirable:

  • Strong communication skills: oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution and ability to deliver GZDI’s strategic objectives.
  • Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations.
  • Facilitate the development and scheduling of volunteer outreach activities.

Communication/Reporting

  • Provide regular feedback on nutrition activities of the program.
  • Assist in preparation of donor reports.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program work plans.
