Background
Action Contre La Faim ACF) has been operational since 2010 in Northeast and has been able to successfully implement integrated programs in Nutrition, Health, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) and Water, sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).. further the mission has expanded its programs in the wake of conflict in Borno state since 2017 , focusing on long term sustainable programs focused on system strengthening for Health, WASH, Social Protection, and Agriculture sectors.. The mission is currently in the process to launch response in the Northwest?Nigeria.
In 2018,?ACF launched the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) in Nigeria in an effort to address the urgent humanitarian assistance to the displaced populations in Northern Nigeria. With this Approach ACF is among the lead agency that is currently reaching the NE &NW regions with Rapid Humanitarian assistance for to the conflict and other disaster affected population. Currently, without conspiring LGAs reached on RRM modality, ACF is providing an integrated humanitarian response in Yobe State (12 Local Government Areas (LGAs), Borno (11 LGAs), Bauchi (2 LGAs) and Jigawa (6 LGAs) with partial presence in Kano. Despite the remarkable achievements in humanitarian sector, ACF, as other humanitarian actors, has been continuously affected by the shrinking humanitarian space.
To cover a maternity leave period, we are looking for a Head of Department Nutrition & Health based in Abuja (Nigeria). The main objective of the Head of Department Nutrition & Health position is to strategically lead and manage nutrition and health initiatives, ensuring effective program development, implementation, and representation while advancing the organization’s mission in these vital areas.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Deputy Country director, the position’s primary responsibilities involve:
- Developing and coordinating strategies for nutrition and health initiatives,
- Encompassing long-term strategic planning and humanitarian operations.
- Collecting and analyzing data, producing reports, reviewing proposals, conducting assessments, initiating research projects, managing budgets,
- Fostering an integrated approach, and collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Overseeing the nutrition and health team, supporting their development, and managing program managers.
- Establishing partnerships with governmental and local agencies, negotiating agreements, and contributing to national strategies against malnutrition
- Representing the organization in health and nutrition matters, maintaining relations with donors, participating in networks and clusters, and disseminating information on AAH’s programs in these fields.
It’s one of the most exciting programs with a very large portfolio of programmes and donors. The Nutrition and Health HoD will be on the ground during the December period, where deadlines for most proposals will be due, and there will be limited staff on the ground as most will be on holidays.
Profile
- You hold a Master’s Degree preferably in Human Nutrition or Medical Sciences
- You have a minimum of 5 to 7 years of previous experience working with NGOs specifically in nutrition and/or health
- You Have an experience with external representation and knowledge of Nut & Health Cluster mechanisms
- You have an advanced knowledge of N&H guidelines and procedures including those of donors and international standards (e.g. SPHERE)
- You also have an Ability and a willingness to travel regularly to AAH field locations. Experience working with multiple donors (OFDA, ECHO, UNICEF, BHA, UN…) including compliance reporting and regulations.
Conditions of Employment
- 4 months fixed term contract under French legislation
- Monthly gross salary from 2597 to 2968 Euros upon experience
- Monthly per diem and living allowance: 737 Euros net, field paid
- Monthly country allowance: 150 Euros
- 16% of the gross monthly salary for pension insurance reimbursement for non-French citizens
- Transportation and accommodation: Coverage of transportation costs and guest house
- Medical coverage: 100% coverage of medical expenses and repatriation insurance
- Leaves and RnR: 25 days of paid leaves per year, 20 RnR per year and 215 Euros at each RnR period
- Training: Free and unlimited access to the certifying e-learning platform Crossknowledge
