Background
Justice, Development and Peace Initiative (JDPI) is a non-governmental organization engaged in developmental works in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States for the past 50 years. JDPI also focuses on Agriculture, WaSH, Nutrition, MHPSS and other emergency programming, reaching out to all persons on the basis of need, regardless of creed, ethnicity or nationality.
JDPI is inviting suitably qualified candidates for the above-mentioned position to work in Jere, Magumeri LGA.

Post Description:
The Nutrition Officer will support project implementation which includes Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition IMAM, Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNA) and other Nutrition related activities as agreed with the donor. The Nutrition Officer will also work with the Government and other key stakeholders in ensuring quality delivery of nutrition interventions in the Project locations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Implementation and Technical Support
- Lead the implementation of nutrition activities, including CMAM, MIYC, and micronutrient supplementation, at Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) and community levels.
- Conduct nutrition screenings (e.g., MUAC, edema checks) and facilitate referrals for malnourished children under five and pregnant/lactating women (PLW).
- Support referrals to OTP, Supplementary Feeding Programs (SFPs), and community outreach activities.
- Organize and facilitate community mobilization, sensitization, and Behavior Change Communication (BCC) sessions on optimal feeding, hygiene, and nutrition practices.
- Ensure integration of nutrition with Health, WaSH, Food Security, and Protection sectors for a holistic response.
- Develop and implement activity work plans, ensuring day-to-day management of nutrition interventions.
- Ensure proper storage, distribution, and rational use of nutrition commodities.
- Disseminate Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials and reporting tools as required.
- Support defaulter tracing and follow-up of OTP beneficiaries at the community level.
- Promote gender-sensitive, inclusive, and equitable access to nutrition services.
Capacity Building and Supervision
- Provide technical support, mentoring, and on-the-job training to Nutrition Promoters and Community Nutrition Mobilizers (CNMs), including Lead Mothers (LMs).
- Supervise community nutrition teams, ensuring adherence to national and international protocols (e.g., Nigeria’s IMAM guidelines, Sphere Standards).
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Support data verification, analysis, and timely submission of weekly and monthly reports to the MEAL unit and project manager.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor service quality, identify gaps, and provide constructive feedback.
- Document best practices, success stories, and lessons learned for internal and donor reporting.
- Support the Community Feedback and Complaints Mechanism (FCRM) to ensure accountability to affected populations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelors degree and its equivalent in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, or a related field. A master’s degree is an advantage.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience in nutrition programming (CMAM, IYCF) in Northeast Nigeria, preferably in emergency or recovery settings.
- Proven expertise in implementing MAM and SAM programs at facility and community levels.
- Familiarity with Nigeria’s National Guidelines for Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) and global nutrition standards (e.g., Sphere, WHO).
- Demonstrable knowledge of nutrition, gender equity, and child protection in humanitarian contexts.
- Experience in participatory action planning, community engagement, and social behavior change communication.
- Strong skills in report writing, team management, and stakeholder engagement.
- Languages: English and Hausa.
