Precious Rubies Empowerment Initiative is a non-profit organisation committed to protecting and rehabilitating women and girls from all forms of Gender Based Violence. We provide shelter and comprehensive services to women and girls of all ages who are survivors of violence.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: NGO Volunteer – Supporting Victims of Domestic Violence

Locations: Abuja (FCT) and Lagos
Employment Type: Volunteer

Job Description
Training and Certification:

  • Completion of specialized training in domestic violence awareness, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care.
  • Certification in relevant areas such as first aid, CPR, or crisis counseling may be required.

Empathy and Sensitivity:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental support to survivors of domestic violence.
  • Sensitivity towards diverse backgrounds and experiences of survivors, including cultural considerations.

Confidentiality and Ethics:

  • Understanding of and commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality to ensure the safety and privacy of survivors.
  • Adherence to ethical guidelines and professional boundaries in all interactions with survivors and colleagues.

Crisis Management Skills:

  • Proficiency in crisis management techniques, including de-escalation, active listening, and providing emotional support during distressing situations.

Knowledge of Resources:

  • Familiarity with local and national resources available to survivors, including shelters, hotlines, legal services, and counseling options.
  • Ability to effectively connect survivors with appropriate support services based on their needs and preferences.

Advocacy and Empowerment:

  • Commitment to advocating for the rights and autonomy of survivors, including supporting them in accessing legal, medical, and social services.
  • Empowering survivors to make informed decisions about their safety and well-being, while respecting their autonomy.

Cultural Competency:

  • Awareness of the intersectionality of domestic violence with factors such as race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.
  • Ability to provide culturally competent and inclusive support to survivors from diverse backgrounds.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with other professionals, including law enforcement, healthcare providers, social workers, and legal advocates.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and clearly with survivors, respecting their wishes and boundaries.

Commitment and Flexibility:

  • Willingness to commit to a regular schedule of volunteering, including evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts as needed.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and respond to emergencies in a timely and effective manner.

Self-Care and Resilience:

  • Understanding the importance of self-care practices to maintain emotional well-being and prevent burnout.
  • Willingness to seek support and supervision from the organization’s staff or external resources when needed.

Requirements

  • Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree with 2-10 years experience.

Salary
N20,000 – N100,000 / Month.
