Position: Medical Officer
Location: Maiduguri/Jere, Nigeria (with field visits across Nigeria)
Duration: 6 Months (Renewable based on funding availability)

About the Role
The MENTOR Initiative is a specialized INGO focused on controlling tropical diseases and improving community health outcomes. Partnering with the Borno State Ministry of Health, we work to strengthen lifesaving health services, enhance disease surveillance, and manage vector-borne diseases. We are looking for a qualified Medical Officer to join our Emergency Response Program in Borno State to deliver essential health services and improve disease prevention efforts for vulnerable communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Support: Provide curative consultations at health facilities and during mobile clinic sessions.
- Ensure readiness of medical supplies, materials, and equipment for mobile clinics.
- Maintain strict hygiene standards during all health consultations.
- Conduct triage activities and perform detailed clinical assessments.
- Diagnose and treat illnesses per established protocols, ensuring clear patient documentation.
- Provide health education related to patient care and treatment.
- Emergency Care & Surveillance: Manage emergency cases and support referral processes as per protocols.
- Investigate unusual health events or disease outbreaks.
- Adhere to patient confidentiality and treat all individuals with respect.
- Nutrition & Malnutrition Management: Support malnutrition diagnosis and care within the OTP program.
- Screen children (6-59 months) for malnutrition and admit eligible cases.
- Conduct follow-up assessments, adjust treatments, and facilitate referrals.
- Data Management: Collect, record, and analyze weekly epidemiological data.
- Oversee stock levels of drugs and supplies for health facilities and mobile clinics.
- Team Leadership & Reporting:
- Submit weekly activity reports to the team leader and attend internal MENTOR meetings.
- Support mobile clinic operations, including vehicle loading/unloading and inventory management.
- Manage mobile clinic staff to ensure effective task execution.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: MBBS with clinical background and primary healthcare experience.
- Experience: Minimum experience in primary healthcare, malaria control programs, community health, and nutrition in emergencies is advantageous. Experience in supervising staff and working with INGOs/NGOs is preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with iCCM protocols, Nigeria’s National Malaria Guidelines, medical data reporting, and mobile clinic operations.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and Kanuri is essential. Hausa language skills are an added advantage.

Additional Information
MENTOR operates in a dynamic humanitarian context, and while weekend work is typically not required, occasional flexibility within the standard 40-hour work week is expected.
