As a dynamic and innovative platform, A-Goal serves as a centre for public education on governance. It leverages technology to generate essential data and insights to inform evidence-based advocacy, drive practice change, and support reforms that promote inclusive and responsive governance in Nigeria. We also develop personalized metrics to track and measure responses of public institutions to public sentiments and feedback.

Description
- Work on A-Goal Initiative’s VAW-P and GovTap projects within their respective geopolitical zones.
- One fellow will be selected for each geopolitical zone.
- Media Data Fellows serve as A-Goal Initiative’s regional eyes and ears across Nigeria.
- Working remotely from their respective geopolitical zones, fellows will monitor how issues relevant to the VAW-P and GovTap projects are reported and discussed across media and civic spaces, in accordance with established research and data-quality protocols.
- This role is suited to someone who understands their region, has strong networks and information-gathering skills, and is committed to accuracy, objectivity, and responsible documentation.
What You Will Do
- Monitor media coverage and public discussion in your zone on issues covered by the VAW-P and GovTap projects.
- Gather information and verify it before it is recorded.
- Document findings accurately, in the agreed format and on time.
- Apply research ethics in every task, including confidentiality and do-no-harm.
- Draw on your networks of journalists and civic actors to understand what is happening locally.
One Fellow per Geopolitical Zone
We are recruiting six fellows, with one fellow selected for each geopolitical zone. Apply for the zone where you are based and have the strongest networks.
- North-Central: Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau and the FCT1 position
- North-East: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe1 position
- North-West: Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara1 position
- South-East: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo1 position
- South-South: Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers1 position
- South-West: Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo1 position
Who we are looking for
- Experience in Communications, Journalism, newsroom, or freelance.
- Basic to moderate understanding of research methods, information-gathering, and research ethics.
- Good knowledge of the media and civic environment within their geopolitical zone.
- Strong access to journalists, media organisations, or relevant civic groups and community networks within their zone.
- Ability to independently monitor and verify political, campaign and civic activities locally or through media and field networks.
- Good documentation, strong attention to detail, communication and data verification skills.
- Ability to work remotely, meet deadlines, and submit accurate reports.
It helps if you have:
- Previous experience in media monitoring, research, journalism, civic engagement, or data collection.
