Job Title: MEAL Officer
Location: Maiduguri, Nigeria
General Context of the Job/Project:
The MEAL Officer will plays a key role in designing and implementing monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning systems for SHO projects. This position is responsible for measuring outcomes and impacts, ensuring accountability towards donors and beneficiaries, and promoting learning and best practices.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Design appropriate data collection tools and methodologies to measure outcomes and impacts of SHO projects, in collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning, ensuring SHO’s accountability towards donors and beneficiaries.
- Establish and maintain robust monitoring and evaluation systems, including indicators, targets, and data collection plans, to track project progress and outcomes effectively.
- Conduct field monitoring visits to project sites to assess implementation progress, identify challenges, and collect data on project outputs and outcomes.
- Lead post-intervention/distribution monitoring activities to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of SHO interventions on beneficiaries and communities.
- Analyze monitoring and evaluation data to identify trends, lessons learned, and best practices, and provide recommendations for program improvement.
- Facilitate participatory learning processes with project teams and partners to document and share lessons learned, success stories, and innovations.
- Support the development of project reports, including donor reports, quarterly and annual reports, and other documentation of project achievements and results.
- Coordinate with external stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and implementing partners, to ensure alignment of MEAL activities with donor requirements and sectoral standards.
- Build the capacity of SHO staff and partners in MEAL concepts, tools, and methodologies through training, coaching, and mentoring sessions.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Social Sciences, International Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning roles, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
- Strong understanding of MEAL concepts, methodologies, and tools, including logical frameworks, results frameworks, and participatory approaches.
- Experience in designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation systems, including developing indicators, data collection tools, and data analysis plans.
- Proficiency in data analysis software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data management and visualization.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and draw actionable conclusions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including project teams, beneficiaries, and donors.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Commitment to SHO’s mission and values, with a dedication to promoting accountability, transparency, and learning in humanitarian programming.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of local languages is an asset.
