Job Summary:
The MEAL Assistant will support the collection, verification, and reporting of program data, assist in accountability activities, and ensure effective monitoring and learning across CDHI projects. The position will work closely with program, MEAL, and field teams to ensure that project activities are properly tracked, documented, and aligned with donor and organizational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Monitoring and Data Collection
- Conduct regular field monitoring visits to collect quantitative and qualitative data on project activities.
- Support the MEAL Officer in developing and updating data collection tools and monitoring checklists.
- Collect, clean, and enter data into digital systems (e.g., Kobo, ODK, or Excel) in a timely manner.
- Support baseline, midline, and endline surveys and other research or assessments.
- Verify accuracy and completeness of data submitted from field teams and community volunteers.
2. Evaluation and Learning
- Assist in compiling monitoring data for project progress and performance tracking.
- Participate in review and reflection meetings to identify lessons learned and best practices.
- Support data visualization and preparation of field-level MEAL summaries.
- Contribute to documentation of case studies, human-interest stories, and community feedback insights.
3. Accountability
- Support implementation of community feedback and complaint response mechanisms (FCRM).
- Record, categorize, and escalate feedback and complaints to the MEAL Officer for action.
- Ensure that community members understand CDHI’s accountability and safeguarding principles.
- Promote transparency and community participation in project activities.
4. Reporting and Documentation
- Provide timely and accurate data for weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
- Maintain organized records of MEAL tools, datasets, and field visit reports.
- Support coordination between field staff and the central MEAL team to ensure data consistency.
- Assist in preparing donor or management reports by compiling relevant field-level evidence.
5. Capacity Building and Coordination
- Support orientation of field staff and volunteers on data collection tools and accountability standards.
- Work closely with program teams to strengthen MEAL integration into project implementation.
- Coordinate with community leaders and beneficiaries to facilitate data collection and information sharing.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Statistics, Economics, Public Health, Development Studies, or related field.
- Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience in monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning in an NGO setting.
- Familiarity with data collection tools (Kobo Toolbox, ODK, CommCare) and Microsoft Excel.
- Basic understanding of MEAL principles, indicators, and data management practices.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging environments.
- Fluency in English and at least one local language (Hausa, Kanuri, or Fulfulde preferred).
- Willingness to travel frequently to field sites.
