Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of HND in Computer Science/Public Health/Epidemiology or equivalent
- At least 2 years’ proven experience in conducting data samples and developing M&E framework
- Familiarity with INGO project designs, working environments and standard procedures preferred
- Fluency in English language and Kanuri is mandatory. Knowledge of Hausa is a distinct advantage.
- Other Skills: Good organizational skills, Excellent communication skills, Good management skills, Ability to
work both independently and with a team
The MENTOR Initiative is a specialist tropical disease control INGO, working with the Borno State Ministry of
Health to reinforce and build capacity for the establishment and maintenance of effective lifesaving health
services, including surveillance and control of life-threatening vector borne diseases.
The MENTOR Initiative is seeking an experienced M&E and Data entry Officer to work in Maiduguri/Jere -Borno
State as part of an Emergency Response Program to ensure access to improved lifesaving disease prevention
and health services for vulnerable communities in Borno State.
Summary of duties and responsibilities
Timely collection of all the program data from the prevention and medical teams daily and to properly
cross-check for accuracy and to ensure that the accurate data is computerized.
To train teams on and conduct population sampling and surveys as required.
To arrange/conduct baseline and end-line surveys in all the designated areas and data compilation.
Support the team in preparation and print out the various data monitoring tools for the activity.
Organize the collection of all project-related data from the field locations.
In close coordination with program, staff verify quality of the data in terms of accuracy and key
information captured.
Organize all data files (soft and hard) in an organized and understandable manner and cross-check all
the hard data with soft version before sharing.
To monitor IEC/BCC Campaign activities using MENTOR M&E checklist and data tools and compiling
results.
Ensure completeness and timeliness of databases for all activities assigned.
In coordination with the prevention/medical teams, conduct routine data verification and cleaning of data
sets.
Ensure data are managed with confidentiality and make sure all data within the domain remain
protected.
Participate in database and procedure design.

Conduct field visits for matters that need onsite field data verification and or field supervision.
To monitor field activities using the MENTOR M&E checklist and data tools and compiling results.
Ensure M&E plans are in place for all indicators and review their relevance and effectiveness in
capturing key program data.
Collect malaria and other epidemiological data from MoH/WHO to compare the impact of IRS in the
target locations.
Regularly sharing the data at least twice a week and when needed for the Program coordinator and
Country Director.
Proper maintenance and tagging of the data files.
Timely provision of data for internal and external reports.
Other activities/duties as agreed upon by the line manager.
Project support
Assist the Medical Officer/Prevention Officers in the day-to-day activity implementation of the project.
Provide logistic and administrative support where needed and when requested.
Regularly participate in training sessions and meetings.
Reporting.
Provide regular updates to Medical Officer on the progress of all field activities through the data
analysis.
Assist in the weekly reporting of the data analysis.
Assist in the provision of data for reporting of the monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual through
the Medical Officer.
Act as the organization’s focal point for external representation to authorities and partners.
Others
Work as part of an established team with excellent communication skills, team builder, flexible, adaptable
and willing to work and travel to other field locations when required.
All other tasks asked for by the Prevention Coordinator/SMT if needed.
Follow-ups with the relevant ministries and sector leads.
Adhere to the agreed MENTOR Code of conduct on Ethics and Integrity and safeguarding including
Whistle blowing policy.
As the MENTOR Initiative is working in a constantly changing humanitarian aid environment, reasonable
specific work duties may be requested that may not fit into the above job description, but which will help promote
over all programs goals and aims. Similarly, while work on weekend will not normally be required, requests to do
so should be regarded as falling within the 40hr working week stipulated within the MENTOR-Initiative’s standard
working contract, of which this job description forms a part.
