We are recruiting internally and externally for the position below:

Job Title: logistics officer

Location: Borno/Yobe

Duration: 3 months (with possibility of extension)

Objective:

The Logistics Officer will be responsible for managing and coordinating the logistics and supply chain operations within the organization, including procurement, transportation, inventory management, and distribution of goods and materials. The incumbent will ensure efficient and effective support to the organization’s programs and activities, adhering to compliance and best practices in logistics management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Procurement and Sourcing:
  • Manage the procurement process, ensuring goods and services are acquired in a timely, cost-effective, and transparent manner.
  • Conduct market research, identify reliable suppliers, and negotiate contracts to achieve favourable terms.

2. Transportation and Distribution:

  • Coordinate the transportation of goods and materials to project sites, ensuring safe and timely delivery.
  • Oversee the distribution of supplies to beneficiaries, adhering to project schedules and requirements.

3. Inventory Management:

  • Maintain accurate inventory records, tracking the receipt, storage, and distribution of all goods and materials.
  • Implement inventory control measures to prevent stock losses and ensure availability of critical supplies.

4. Fleet Management:

  • Oversee the management of the organization’s vehicle fleet, ensuring regular maintenance, insurance, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Schedule and coordinate vehicle usage to support program activities, optimizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

5. Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure logistics activities comply with organizational policies, donor requirements, and local regulations.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on logistics operations, highlighting challenges, achievements, and recommendations for improvement.

6. Coordination and Collaboration:

  • Work closely with program teams to understand their logistics needs and provide timely support.
  • Liaise with partners, suppliers, and government agencies to facilitate logistics operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in logistics or supply chain management, preferably in the NGO or humanitarian sector.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in logistics and inventory management software, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, supply chain principles, and logistics best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a problem-solving mind-set.
