Zenith of the Girl Child and Women Initiative Support is a leading girls and women’s rights organization, which promotes gender equality, reaching the most vulnerable, and promoting meaningful inclusion. The organization is a registered non-profit, non-governmental female/youth-led organization that aims to prevent and protect women and girls against all forms of gender-based violence, abuse, and discrimination. Zenith of the Girl Child and Women Initiative Support advocates and influences policies in favor of women and girls. ZEGCAWIS creates awareness and sensitizes communities on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, prevention of sexual and all forms of gender-based violence information, and response services. ZEGCAWIS has been in existence since 2016, it became officially registered with cooperate affairs commission in Nigeria in 2018.

We are looking for experienced and dedicated professionals who are passionate about improving women and Youth’s micro-enterprise, creating visibility, and supporting them in developing sustainable business plans in our project titled: Strengthening Women and Youth Enterprises for Sustainable Income Generation and Economic Empowerment in partnership with Mercy Corps Nigeria Through the USAID funded Rural Resilience Activities across Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa State.
JOB TITLE: Livelihood officers
CONTRACT DURATION: 12 months
LOCATION: Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States
PROJECT: Strengthening Women and Youth Enterprises for Sustainable Income Generation and Economic Empowerment
DEADLINE: January, 28th 2022
The purpose of this role is to coordinate and support all program activities, the livelihood officers will work directly with livelihood consultants and report to the Project Manager.
Dimension of Role
- Community entry and mobilization as well as linkage of youth and women to economic groups with the support of the community-based livelihood consultants
- Participate in micro-business opportunity assessment, and map out appropriate business models that work for women and youths small scale enterprises
- Identify and work with business development support (BDS) providers and private sector partners willing to engage in micro-franchising, traineeship/apprenticeships opportunities for women and youths
- Facilitate capacity building and training (technical, soft skills, business management, and financial literacy) for women and youth small scale enterprises
- Provide technical support and mentorship to women and youth business owners
- Facilitate quarterly review discussions with group leaders and relevant stakeholders to advocate and inform decision making in favor of women and youths small-scale enterprise owners
- Assess job search agencies and other private sector partners and facilitate linkages to youth entrepreneurs
- Organize bi-annual experience sharing and learning sessions among women and youths’ entrepreneurs/micro-business
- Provide an evidence-based input in developing the ZEGCAWIS Women and youth’s Economic empowerment Model based on experience gathered in the implementation of this program
- Draft monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports and provide analysis and recommendation
- Collaborate with ZEGCAWIS livelihoods departments and consultants at the field level, in respective local governments, and work closely with the Mercy corps RRA team and local government stakeholders, to buy in the ownership of the initiative for sustainable livelihood, economic growths, and women and youth’s economic empowerments in their communities.
- Prepare and submit success as well as challenges in program implementation along with monthly, quarterly progress reports to informed decision making
- Any other duties and responsibilities that can be given by immediate and technical supervisors
Staff Supervision & Development:
- Maintain an open and professional relationship with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable livelihoods consultants to successfully perform in their positions.
- Ensure the proper implementation of the project performance management including job description and on-the-job performance evaluation, regular feedback, mid-term reviews, and annual performance appraisals of Livelihood consultants using ZEGCAWIS Policies and Guidelines.
- Proactively address performance issues through regular, constructive, and honest feedback and coaching.
- Identify necessary staff development and career development opportunities for the consultants.
- Ensure that all ZEGCAWIS policies and operating procedures are upheld.
Technical Expertise, Skills, and Knowledge
Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc or equivalent in management and social science, business administration, Marketing, Economics, or related experience
- At least 3years experience in implementing sustainable livelihoods or women and youths economic empowerment program
- At least 2 years of direct experience in the Establishment of a functional and independent business network through networking events between key actors within the value chains and for additional partners
- Previous experience supervising and managing a team in a cross-cultural setting
- Demonstrated experience in capacity building and mentoring of staff
Technical Skills:
- Provide technical and management leadership to livelihood consultants, or other staff following best practices and ZEGCAWIS policies, including its survivor-centered and community-based approach.
- Ensure regular communication with the Project manager to integrate appropriate priorities in program design
- Ensure regular individual supervision of livelihood consultants
- Conduct regular capacity assessment and capacity building including coaching and mentoring of the livelihood consultants and group leaders to improve on the quality of project implementation.
- Collaborate with other actors in the RRA to ensure referrals to other services and interventions.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems, think and plan strategically, and communicate with key actors in a dynamic and unpredictable operating environment
- Strong skills in monitoring, evaluation, research, and conducting participatory, community-led assessments.
- Knowledge of community mobilization and facilitation techniques
- Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Ability and willingness to work in a participatory manner with a diverse range of communities
Personal qualities:
- Team player, clear communicator, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well under minimal supervision, and a commitment to ZEGCAWIS core values and gender
Languages:
- Fluency in written and spoken English and knowledge of the local language
