Position: Laboratory Scientist

Location: Benin, Edo State

OBJECTIVES:

This position reports to the centre coordinator. The Laboratory Scientist at (MSI) is responsible for clientcentred clinical services and laboratory equipment maintenance. They ensure accurate testing, specimen storage, and compliance with protocols. 

The role involves building partnerships, maintaining confidentiality, and generating demand for MSI services. Strong communication and administrative skills are required to document communications, handle client complaints, and liaise with regulatory bodies. The Laboratory Scientist must hold a recognized clinical qualification, have post-graduation experience, and be licensed and registered with local clinical professional bodies. They should be motivated, empathetic, and capable of working independently.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Partnership and network building o Encourage a commitment to accommodating clients’ special needs such as flexibility of working. 
    1. hours. o Maintain strict privacy and confidentiality to generate demand for MSN services.
    1. Have a public relations and promotional role with colleagues, NHS and the general public. o Timely collate and submit Laboratory reports to the centre team. o Monitor monthly client numbers and income generated and in collaboration with the centre teams. 
    1. Make appropriate recommendations to meet income to cost targets.
  • Laboratory Scientist roles o Welcoming, friendly, professional, and efficient atmosphere for all clients and visitor in the laboratory to always ensure client satisfaction.
    • Maintaining laboratory equipment (including calibration) in a proper working condition and prompt 
    • report of any malfunction to the centre coordinator. 
    • Keep record of stock, perform forecasts, and ensure reagents and other laboratory consumable do.

not fall below minimum level  o Perform regular Quality control on laboratory reagents after supply and before use.  o Ensure specimen are obtained in the appropriate manner.

  • Provide timely and accurate result. o Ensure cervical smear specimens are stored and packaged correctly for transportation to the 
  • approved cytology/pathology laboratory o Maintain accurate records of all tests performed and the result of such tests. o Keep abreast with and ensure that MSN complies with latest developments in laboratory testing. 
  • protocol in Nigeria o Assist to provide counselling on core MSN Clinical services in the Laboratory. o Carry out any other lawful duties assigned by the Centre Coordinator. o Make proper use of available information systems in MSI to facilitate service delivery & trainings.

3. Communication and administration o Ensure formal communications with the various health partners are properly documented.

  • Follow up on all client’s complaints relating to any of the MSN services and make. 
  • recommendations. o Able to sign off on a lab result and take responsibility when there is an error in diagnosis.
  • Liaise appropriately with the Council of Medical Laboratory Sciences of Nigeria and other relevant regulatory bodies during routine or periodic visits and assessments for QC standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 o At least 1 year’s post NYSC working experience in similar position.

  • Must have a recognised clinical qualification in Medical Laboratory Science. o Must be registered with a recognised local clinical professional body in Nigeria and of good Standing. 
  • Must be licenced and have a valid practicing licence.  o Must have requisite experience to work with minimum supervision.
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification e.g. MBA, MSc, MA (desirable).
