Main Objectives of the Position:

Knowledge Management and Communications Coordinator (KMC) is responsible for overseeing the SMF’s knowledge management strategy. This involve coordinating the collection, organization, and dissemination of information and resources related to the SMF’s mission and programs. Tasks such as developing and maintaining knowledge management systems, conducting training sessions on knowledge management best practices, and facilitating the sharing of information among team members and partners of SMF in line with the USAID Collaborate, Lear and Adapt (CLA) Standard. Overall, the KMC plays a crucial role in ensuring that the organization has access to the information and resources it needs to achieve its goals and effectively serve its constituents.

Roles and Responsibilities of KMC in SMF:

  • Developing and implementing a knowledge management plan to ensure that information and resources are organized, accessible, and up-to-date.
  • Identifying key stakeholders and partners, and engaging with them to gather and share information and resources.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key partners and stakeholders, such as other NGOs, government agencies, and community organizations.
  • Developing and managing systems for organizing and storing information and resources, such as databases, libraries, and online platforms.
  • Providing training and support to staff and volunteers on how to use knowledge management tools and systems.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of the organization’s knowledge management strategy, and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop annual action plan based on the strategy for knowledge management and support the preparation and implementation of knowledge management (KM) local, provincial and national actions;
  • Develop the editorial calendar, social media plans, advocacy plans and materials based on the annual and semi-annual review and planning meetings and thematic meetings;
  • Support the organization and coordination of the network of district communication officers or focal persons and provide regular supervision;
  • Organize internal/external data and documentation of the organization in a systematic manner;
  • Regularly disseminate relevant thematic information amongst the local, national, regional and international stakeholders;
  • Excellent writing skills and self-starter with the ability to source and craft relevant stories. Assist development of technical publications, reports, learning briefs, updates, newsletters, presentations, videos, posters, and social media content as needed 
  • Build capacity and support district-based knowledge management and communication focal person on identification, documentation, and production of knowledge building and communication resources;
  • Develop complementary, programme specific content in accordance with the organization communication strategy and adapted to the target audience;
  • Recommend appropriate information and communication materials for use in media, and other advocacy and communication activities; recommend the appropriateness, quality and dissemination of printed and audio-visual materials;
  • Establish or maintain an up-to-date documentation centre for communication materials including publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc;

  • Communicates clearly and confidently with others to engage and influence; promotes dialogue and ensures timely and building confidence and trust.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience in interacting with both internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements (Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge)

Education

University Degree/Higher National Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Development or a related discipline

Experience

At least 2 years’ experience in knowledge management, development and communication related jobs or in the journalism department. Experience in media relations, ICT and extensions will be an advantage.

Languages         

Essential English language and local language desirable

Knowledge

  • Computer literacy and usage of office technologies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) or Google Workspace (Sheet, Docs and Slide)
  • Ability to work with accounting software such as Quick Books is an advantage
  • Conversant with different community management platforms such as Slack, Discord or Telegram.
  • Demonstrate capacity to develop and oversee implementation of documentation of programme results, presentations, and reporting skills.
