COOPI is looking for a DRC Area Manager at the Milan office

Present in the DRC since 1977, COOPI has significantly increased the number of its operations in the country in response to the conflicts of the past 20 years. Starting from Kivu, where the first intervention took place, COOPI’s activities extended to most crisis areas, to implement emergency programs for the benefit of displaced populations and war victims, with particular attention to nutrition, food safety and child protection. In the provinces that emerge from the crisis, COOPI is committed to realizing multi-annual projects to ensure the transition from emergency to development and ensure harmonious and sustainable development. COOPI provides a response relevant to the needs of local populations through a coordination structure in Kinshasa and various operational bases in the provinces. Each year, COOPI carries out a dozen projects funded by the European Union, the Humanitarian Fund, the ICC and UN agencies.

Description of the role

As part of International Activities, COOPI seeks a Area Manager for the management of the Democratic Republic of the Congo country. The position, based in Italy with frequent missions, even of medium and long duration, he refers to the Management.

Responsibility for the role

  • Define strategies related to the presence of the Foundation in the country of in agreement with the Management;
  • Monitor ongoing activities, ensuring its good execution with respect to the defined contents, also in their economic and financial terms;
  • Care and develop i relations with institutional donors, in consultation with the Head of Mission and according to the guidelines of the Management, through their competent officials at local or central territorial level;
  • Support the head of mission in relations with local authorities and counterparts in order to ensure the best management of ongoing activities;
  • Ensure ’application and compliance with procedures the Foundation, institutional and country donors;
  • Formulate and update, in agreement with the Head of Mission, i local regulations implementation of the Foundation’s procedures and verify their application;
  • Collaborate on selection, contractualization and training of expatriate personnel to be included in the country;
  • Promote the collection and dissemination of news on the activities related to the country of competence, ensuring the passage of this information to the institutionally appointed offices of the Foundation.

Profile sought

essential

  • University education
  • Total work experience of at least 7 years, of which at least 5 in the context of international cooperation
  • Significant work experience abroad of at least 3 years with direct project responsibility and management of expatriate personnel
  • Excellent written and oral knowledge of these languages: French (priority), English
  • Competences in the administrative management of projects (planning, supervision of available budget, control)
  • Strong attitudes to interact and collaborate in terms of planning and coordination with different interlocutors
  • Excellent relationship and communication skills
  • Strong attitude to problem solving
  • Willingness to perform frequent field monitoring and control missions

Desirable

The following will constitute preferential title for the selection purposes:

  • Previous and significant experience in a similar role
  • A previous and significant experience with COOPES
