BOAID Humanitarian Foundation is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization working to address critical issues facing the most vulnerable and communities impoverished in Northeast Nigeria. We work with professionals, dedicated staff and volunteers to provide and improve the quality of Camp management and camp coordination (CCCM), General protection, Education, WASH, HEALTH and care for needy children while supporting the development of sustainable solutions for community growth. BOAID runs a range of projects which rely on the skills, commitment and enthusiasm of volunteers from around the Northern Nigeria. Our grassroots effort is dedicated towards assisting communities in their quest to achieve a healthy self-sustained life.

Job Title: Hygiene Officer

Location: RANN, BORNO STATE

Contract Duration: 6 Months with possible extension

Job Summary

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of hygiene promotion activities in target areas.
  • Conduct assessments to identify hygiene needs and develop appropriate response strategies.
  • Design and deliver hygiene awareness sessions, educating beneficiaries on best practices and behavior change.
  • Coordinate with community leaders, local authorities, and stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Monitor the availability and usage of hygiene facilities, such as latrines and handwashing stations.
  • Facilitate the distribution of hygiene kits and materials to beneficiaries.
  • Train and mentor hygiene promoters and community volunteers to enhance their capacities.
  • Prepare regular progress reports, including data collection and analysis of hygiene program outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other sectors to integrate hygiene promotion into broader humanitarian initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with hygiene sector standards, protocols, and guidelines.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, or related fields. A Master’s degree is desirable.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in implementing hygiene promotion programs in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Strong knowledge of hygiene promotion methodologies, behavior change theories, and best practices.
  • Proven experience in conducting hygiene assessments and designing effective hygiene interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, ensuring timely and quality program delivery.
  • Proficiency in using computer applications, including Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
