Background
Center for Child Care and Human Development (C3HD) is a Child Centered and Women Focused (CCWF) non-governmental, non-tribal, non-religious and non-profitable organization established and registered with state in 2017 and later registered as a non-profit organization with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
C3HD was established to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable communities and especially women and children, people with disabilities and those affected by conflict and insurgency through maximizing contributions to Health care and wellbeing, Education, WASH, Gender, social and disability inclusions, Protection, Peace Building, and Economic recovery and
Livelihood.
C3HD is striving for an all-inclusive community and human development for all, including populations who are marginalized, underserved or affected by conflict or insurgency, catering to their health and wellbeing. We have a mission of transforming the lives women and children on the edges of society and help them regain and pursue their dreams for sustainable development.
C3HD acts as an agent for change. For 5 years and in 4 states (Yobe, Borno, Adamawa and Kano States), we help women and children to overcome the massive problem they face through reducing inequality in accessing health services and education, responding to violence and exclusion, promoting food security, empowerment, peace and resilience building of communities to be able to withstand and respond to future hardships. We employ “the protective communities’ approach” to our programming’s by mainstreaming safeguarding and protection in our activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health, Nursing, Health Education, Social Work, Sociology, or any related field.
- A Master’s Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, or Community Development is an added advantage.
Certification or training in Health Education and Promotion, Community Mobilization, Behavior Change Communication (BCC), or Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) is desirable.
- Familiarity with HIV/AIDS, Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), or Nutrition programming is an asset.
- Strong ability to plan, implement, and monitor health education campaigns and community outreach activities.
- Skilled in developing and delivering health messages tailored to different audiences (adolescents, women, caregivers, etc.).
- Knowledge of social and behavior change communication (SBCC) strategies.
- Ability to facilitate community dialogues, focus group discussions (FGDs), and health awareness sessions effectively.
- Experience working closely with community leaders, religious leaders, youth groups, and women’s associations to promote health initiatives.
- Strong understanding of community structures and dynamics.
- Ability to strengthen community participation and ownership of health programs.
- Capable of collecting, documenting, and reporting outreach data using standardized tools.
- Ability to analyze field data and produce timely, accurate activity reports.
- Experience using digital data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox or ODK is an advantage.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (and local languages).
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with diverse community members and partners.
- Ability to communicate complex health information in a simple, culturally appropriate manner.
- Ability to plan and organize multiple outreach activities efficiently.
- Experience collaborating with health facilities, NGOs, and government agencies.
- Strong teamwork and coordination skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated passion for community health and humanitarian service.
- Strong sense of responsibility, empathy, and accountability.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in field settings.
- Flexibility to travel frequently and work in challenging environments.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in health promotion, community outreach, or public health programs within humanitarian or development contexts.
- Proven experience in planning and implementing community health interventions, including awareness campaigns and behavior change communication (BCC) activities.
- Experience working with local communities, health facilities, and government health departments.
Familiarity with community-based health approaches and participatory methodologies.
- Previous experience with donor-funded projects (e.g., WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, or other INGOs) is an advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and implement health promotion and disease prevention activities within target communities.
- Conduct community sensitization and awareness sessions on key public health topics such as hygiene, nutrition, maternal and child health, and communicable disease prevention.
- Develop and distribute information, education, and communication (IEC) materials tailored to community needs.
- Support the formation and training of community health volunteers, peer educators, and outreach groups.
- Promote positive behavior change through participatory community approaches and culturally appropriate messages.
- Organize and participate in community outreach activities, including mobile clinics, health campaigns, and screening exercises.
- Collaborate with local health facilities to strengthen referral systems and ensure follow-up of referred cases.
- Identify and address barriers to accessing health services within communities.
- Support emergency response activities, including outbreak control and health risk communication.
- Coordinate with community leaders, local authorities, and partner organizations to ensure effective delivery of health promotion activities.
- Represent the organization in health coordination and community engagement meetings.
- Work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and program teams to ensure integration of outreach activities into broader health programs.
- Collect and document data on outreach and health promotion activities using standardized tools.
- Prepare timely and accurate weekly and monthly reports on activities, challenges, and achievements.
Contribute to assessments, surveys, and evaluations to inform program planning and improvement.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices from field implementation.
- Support training and mentorship of community health volunteers and outreach workers on health promotion and communication techniques.
- Assist in developing training materials and guidelines to strengthen community health capacities.
- Ensure all activities are implemented in line with organizational policies, donor regulations, and humanitarian principles.
- Promote safeguarding, protection, and inclusion principles in all health promotion and outreach activities.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and respect when engaging with community members and beneficiaries.
