Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. The following vacancy is open to all residents of Nigeria.

Contract Period: Indefinite

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Inform patients and communities about MSF and services it provides.

        According to medical priorities, deliver information to the patients and community on specific health topics

  1. Implement activities of health education and awareness (sessions in schools, community), under the indications and supervision of the HP Supervisor.
  2. Under the guide of HP Supervisor, assess the impact of activities (with questions, verifications and behaviors observations), and report problems, success and constraints to him/her.

Collect all type of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target.

  • Report to HP Supervisor: activities, problems met, strengths and constraints.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with social partners, including other NGO’s, governmental health services that can provide answers to social problems.
  • Keep education and communication areas clean and tidy and professional materials available.
  • Participate in creation of any material needed for the activities of information, education and communication

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Sensitize the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) on the available services provided by MSF medical team.
  • Carry out calendar events organized within the year within the IDP setting.
  • Collect relevant monthly data such as the number of newborn and deaths within the community.
  • Carry out community surveillance and report to the HP Supervisor.
  • Ensure information flow according to the IDP community (new camps, new arrivals, needs, gaps, partners in the IDP)  Act as back up of HP Supervisor when necessary Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Health) or other Social science essential. MSF training on health messages desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum 2-year experience with MSF/other INGO in health promotion activities, teaching, community mobilization etc essential. At least, 3months in outreach/mobile clinic in remote setting desirable.

            Languages: Local language (Hausa, Kanuri) essential. English language highly desirable.

  • Knowledge: Basic computer literacy skills desirable.

      Competencies: Results and Quality Orientated, Teamwork and Cooperation, Behavioural Flexibility, Commitment to MSF Principles, Stress Management.
