We are currently seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Counsellor to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the emotional, social, and educational well-being of the children and families we serve. You will work closely with children, parents, educators, and our multidisciplinary team to understand individual needs, provide appropriate counselling support, and develop personalized strategies that promote positive emotional and social development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and family counselling services to children and families, both in-person and virtually.
- Assess the emotional, social, behavioural, and developmental needs of clients and provide appropriate counselling interventions.
- Develop and implement individualized counselling and support plans based on each child\’s and family\’s unique needs.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to children and families experiencing behavioural, social, emotional, or developmental challenges.
- Work collaboratively with parents, educators, therapists, and other professionals to promote the overall well-being and development of each child.
- Support children and families through key transitions, including starting school, changing schools, and reaching developmental milestones.
- Help clients develop healthy coping mechanisms, communication skills, emotional regulation, and positive social skills.
- Monitor clients\’ progress and regularly review and update counselling plans based on their evolving needs.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date client records and documentation.
- Provide guidance and recommendations to parents and caregivers to support children\’s emotional and behavioural development at home.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to coordinated care plans.
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all interactions with clients and families.
- Participate in relevant training, workshops, and professional development activities to remain current with counselling best practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by your supervisor to support the overall mission of the organization.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor\’s or Master\’s degree in Counselling, Guidance and Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certification, registration, or licensure in counselling or a related field, where applicable.
- Minimum of 1 year of counselling experience, preferably working with children and/or families.
- Experience working with children with special needs, including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, or other developmental challenges, is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of child development, emotional well-being, and behavioural support strategies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and active listening skills.
- Empathetic, patient, compassionate, and committed to supporting children and families.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism when handling sensitive client information.
- Comfortable providing both in-person and virtual counselling services.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
