About the Organization:

Restoration of Hope Initiative (ROHI) is dedicated to improving the lives of marginalized communities through sustainable development projects. Our focus is on creating inclusive environments where everyone has a voice and an opportunity to thrive. We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Gender Officer to lead our project aimed at amplifying the voices of women in Northeast Nigeria.

Job Summary:

The Gender Officer will be responsible for ensuring gender mainstreaming and the effective implementation of gender-sensitive strategies within the project. This role involves working closely with local communities, stakeholders, and project teams to empower women and enhance their participation in decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and Implement Gender Strategies: Create and execute gender-sensitive strategies and activities to ensure women’s voices are amplified within the project.
  2. Capacity Building: Conduct training and workshops for staff, partners, and community members on gender issues, women’s rights, and empowerment.
  3. Community Engagement: Engage with local communities to identify gender-specific needs and advocate for the inclusion of women in community decision-making processes.
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop indicators and tools to monitor and evaluate the impact of gender-related activities. Collect and analyse data to ensure project goals are being met.
  5. Collaboration: Work closely with other project staff, other CSOs, government agencies, and stakeholders to integrate gender perspectives into all aspects of the project.
  6. Reporting: Prepare regular reports on gender activities, progress, and challenges. Ensure compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies.
  7. Advocacy: Advocate for gender equality and women’s rights at local, regional, and national levels. Represent the organization in relevant forums and networks.
  8. Community Mobilization: Engaging community leaders, especially men and boys, in roundtable discussions on harmful traditional beliefs and practices. Conducting dialogue sessions between women and traditional leaders, teachers and students, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in gender mainstreaming, women’s empowerment, or related fields, preferably within the NGO sector.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of gender issues and women’s rights in the context of Northeast Nigeria.
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills.
  • Strong analytical and data collection skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
