Duration: 7 Months**

Overview:

The “MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership” (MCGL), is a four-year USAID funded project led by Jhpiego in consortium partnership with Save the Children, PACT and The Manhoff Group (TMG). The project focuses on prevention and mitigation of the consequences of violence against women and girls and addressing possible drivers of Child Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM) and is being implemented in Sokoto and Ebonyi States, to address four technical areas viz: Sexual violence (SV), Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), CEFM and early adoption of family planning.

As part of its learning agenda to identify effective GBV response strategies, the project will be conducting a quasi-experimental, matched-pair, cluster-controlled study in Ebonyi and Sokoto State (s) to evaluate the integration of first line response to gender- based violence (GBV), particularly intimate partner violence (IPV) within family planning (FP) and antenatal care (ANC) services. The study will cover 40 selected health facilities in Ebonyi and Sokoto.

Data collection will take place in both intervention and control sites over a period of 7 months starting from April to July 2022 and analysis will be on a rolling basis. Trained Research Assistants will be posted to health facilities tasked with responsibilities such as recruitment of clients, enrolment of clients and conduct of follow-up interviews.

Objectives

  1. Assess effectiveness of the intervention in reducing IPV, increasing utilization of modern contraceptive methods, and improving safety and self-efficacy among clients seeking interval FP services.

1b. Assess effectiveness of the intervention in reducing IPV and improving safety and self-efficacy among clients seeking ANC services.

  1. Explore factors influencing feasibility, acceptability and ability to implement GBV first-line response as part of FP and ANC services.

Overall Responsibility

Manage the scheduling and coordination of the Research Assistants and ensure quality data by monitoring server uploads, running data quality checks and the provision of necessary support where applicable.

Specific Responsibilities

Working closely with the MCGL HQ Study Team, In-country MEL Advisor, Data Officers and other MCGL staff as may be identified, you are to:

a) Participate in the data collection training for Research Assistants in March 2022

b) Participate in field testing the data collection tools in selected health facilities in Ebonyi or Sokoto State.

c) Review data sent to server on a daily basis during data collection periods by the Research Assistants and ensure all inconsistencies/data errors are promptly resolved.

d) Supervise and closely monitor the activities and data collection schedules of the Research Assistants to ensure adherence to study protocol and SOPs.

e) Conduct bi-weekly onsite supportive supervision to study sites to spot check the activities of Research Assistants and provide feedback where necessary

f) Ensure there are no stockout of documentation tools at the study sites

g) Flag all issues related to smartphone malfunction immediately

h) Responsible for downloading and cleaning of data on the server, on a monthly basis, before onward transmission to the MEL Advisor

i) Participate in study biweekly meetings and HQ level where applicable

j) Conduct periodic data reviews and facilitate lessons learned plus sessions at the health facilities and any other assigned tasks by the MEL Advisor

k) Run weekly validation rule on REDCAP to spot check data issues prior to data download

l) Download RA GPS data every week and run checks to confirm RAs visited the HFs and share findings with MEL Advisor

Qualifications/Experiences/Competencies

· An advanced degree in Sociology, medical or health sciences research or biostatistics is required

· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in data analysis for public health and/or international development programs

· Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods, community surveys and good publication track records are desirable

· Excellent communications and interpersonal skills are essential

· Good spoken and written English

· Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines at short notice

· Excellent report writing skills

· Familiarity with international donors and social development report writing requirements will be an added advantage

· Experience using REDCap software for both data collection and study management

· Good computer skills and competence with data analysis software including SPSS or Stata.

· Knowledge of ArcGIS is an added advantage.

Deliverables

Your specific deliverables are:

o Activity report detailing work done and recommendations including:

  • Weekly updates on challenges and action taken to MEL Advisor
  • Weekly validation check analysis on relevant tools, per timeline
  • Biweekly GPS analysis showing where RAs worked
  • Monthly activity report
  • Final consolidated report (at the end of the consultancy period)
