FOOD NUTRITION SECURITY AND LIVELIHOOD OFFICER – ADAMAWA

We have been working in Nigeria since 2017. In Northeast Nigeria and more specifically in Borno, Taraba and Adamawa States, MI is currently active in the WASH, Protection and FNSL sectors for saving and improving the lives of both the IDP/refugee populations as well as the host communities. The WASH activities focus on improved access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene which include NFI distribution, solarization of boreholes, rehabilitation of hand pumps, construction of latrines and hygiene promotion. The protection activities focus on prevention and response to Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases. The Food Nutrition Security and Livelihood interventions mainly focus on micro gardening, pullet rearing for egg production, composting and Nutrition (food demonstration, referrals of malnutrition cases to nutrition partners, and sensitization on nutrition). Malteser International applies a participatory, gender-sensitive and inclusive approach.
For our work in Adamawa State Nigeria, Malteser International is looking for an experienced Food Nutrition Security and Livelihood Officer – National Position.
The FNSL Officer – Peacebuilding, Social Cohesion, and Livelihood Support will be responsible for supporting the implementation of United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) ensuring timely delivery of tasks, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
In fulfilling these duties, the FNSL Officer must ensure full compliance with Malteser International’s and the donor’s administrative, human resources, finance, safety and security, and logistics procedures at the workplace.
Main Responsibilities:
Participate in the implementation of food, nutrition security and livelihood project
- Support FNSL needs assessment and identify the communities
- Assist in the training of community mobilizers, and targeted beneficiaries.
- Assist in the training on peacebuilding and livelihood with youth, women and community leaders from various tribal, religious, and/or ethnic.
- Organize community-based social cohesion events.
- Implement project Livelihood activities according to plan of action developed
- Ensuring Do No Harm and conflict sensitivity approaches are being applied.
- Support in the establishment/strengthening of community groups such as peace committees, and youth and women committees.
- Ensure the gender mainstreaming during the implementation of activities.
- Assist in conducting monitoring visit
- Attend coordination meeting with the partners
Collect data, develop reports including compliance with Malteser International
- Collect the data on a daily basis and prepare weekly internal reports,
- Prepare weekly activities reports and submit them to the Sector Manager and Area Coordinator.
- Participate in the archiving and the capitalization of the program’s documents.
- Participate in the elaboration of the Survey adapted to the food nutrition and livelihood security
- Support the training of beneficiaries
- Monitor the disbursement at vendor level
- Monitor the progress of activities and the impact of the FNSL project
- Propose possible improvements and adaptations of the approach.
- Participate in the evaluation of project needs (HR, Finance, and Logistics)
- Internally: follow hierarchical relationships in exchange of information, collaboration, and coordination
- Externally: exchange of information, coordination, training, assessment of technical feasibilities with Local governmental and non-governmental partners as directed by FNSL manager.
Build relationships with local partners and community
- Present the purpose of the project to the various local partners.
- Liaise with Government stakeholder, community leaders, community mobilizers and the beneficiaries.
- Maintain a positive relationship between the organization and the community.
- Comply with Malteser International mandate, humanitarian principles and the current program.
General conduct:
- Maintain a “client-friendly” atmosphere that is non-judgmental and supportive of beneficiaries regardless of their background, with special attention for respect of medical confidentiality.

- Carry out additional tasks as required by supervisor.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, Knowledge, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in peacebuilding, social cohesion, livelihoods, or a related field
- At least 2-3 years of experience in livelihoods, peacebuilding, and social cohesion projects
- Excellent project management, partnership management, and coordination skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the capacity to see the big picture and make sound decisions
- Proactive, resourceful, solutions- and results-oriented, with a genuine interest in continuous learning
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead project teams and work collaboratively with partners to deliver innovative programs
- Ability to work effectively with local governments, uphold MI values and standards, and perform in stressful or challenging environments, including travel to remote field locations and partner sites
