We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Volunteer Finance Officer to support the implementation of our financial management systems while gaining valuable practical experience in humanitarian program finance.
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria
Duration: 6 Months (Renewable based on performance and organizational needs)

Position Summary
The Volunteer Finance Officer will support the implementation of financial management, budgeting, and compliance activities across TTHO projects. Working under the supervision of the Finance Manager or Program Manager, the volunteer will assist in transaction processing, financial record-keeping, budget tracking, and reporting to ensure sound financial stewardship.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for young professionals seeking practical experience in humanitarian finance management.
Key Responsibilities
The Volunteer Finance Officer will:
Financial Management
• Support day-to-day financial transactions, including payments, retirements, and reimbursements.
• Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
• Support cash and bank reconciliations.
• Verify supporting documents for completeness and compliance before processing.
Budgeting & Reporting
• Assist in tracking project budgets against actual expenditure (BVA).
• Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and donor financial reports.
• Compile financial data summaries, spreadsheets, and expenditure trackers.
• Support audit preparation and donor compliance reviews.
Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure adherence to TTHO financial policies and donor regulations.
• Maintain organized filing systems for financial documents (hard and soft copies).
• Support proper documentation of procurement and payment processes.
• Assist in petty cash management and monitoring.
Other Responsibilities
• Participate in coordination and finance team meetings.
• Support capacity-building sessions on financial procedures.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Experience
• Previous volunteer, internship, or work experience in finance/accounting is an added advantage.
• Experience with NGO or donor-funded project finance is desirable.
• Knowledge of humanitarian financial compliance will be an added advantage.
Required Skills and Competencies
• Basic understanding of accounting and financial management principles.
• Familiarity with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) is an advantage.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment.
• Willingness to travel to project locations within Borno State when required.
Preferred Competencies Knowledge of:
• Donor financial compliance (USAID, ECHO, UN agencies, etc.)
• Budget monitoring and variance analysis
• Financial risk management
• Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS)
