GEPaDC on Promotion of Women’s Equality, Rights and Responsibilities POWERR intervention in MMC, Jere and Mafa LGA in Borno State.

Gender Equality, Peace and Development Centre (GEPaDC) is a not-for-profit, non-political, non-religious and Women-led organization with the vision “a society where women and men, girls and boys realize their full potential and participate in every sphere on equal basis and where the rights of everyone irrespective of sex are recognized and respected” and the mission of “Promoting gender equality, peace and sustainable development and empowering women & girls”. GEPaDC is devoted to gender equality and promoting and valuing the rights of women and girls based in Borno State with remote office in Yobe State (has worked in the 27 LGAs prior to the insurgency). We currently have staff strength of over 300 staff and volunteers including our headquarters in the FCT Abuja, and based offices in Borno and filed office Yobe State. 

As part of our Gender Equality thematic area, GEPaDC with support from IMC is implementing a project titled: Promotion of Women’s Equality, Rights and Responsibilities POWERR. The goal seeks to promote the participation and protection of women and girls especially in communities of Jere, MMC, and Mafa through Engaging Men through Accountability Practice (EMAP) and Economic and Social Empowerment (EASE) approaches. 

The project will promote Women’s equality rights and responsibilities in Jere, MMC, and Mafa LGAs of Borno State, with a piece of increased knowledge on human rights and initiate positive thinking and reflection among community members regarding prevention of GBV, build resilience and contribute to early recovery efforts in the target communities. The project will combine EMAP and EA$E  models to build a tailored capacity of Men and Women to accountable and recognized when they act harmful to women as well as build sustainable income-generating through access to credit loan and business skills Besides, there shall be series of gender discussion groups (GDS that aligns with IMC priorities such as human and women’s rights, prevention of gender-based violence, gender inequality, abuse of power, GBV, and other protection issues such as COVID 19 prevention messages, child protection, and community-based protection mechanisms. The intervention will also target 400,000beneficiaries with messages on Covid19 prevention and responses. IEC material shall be made available and various community structures will be empowered to sensitize and create awareness in their local languages. Engaging Men through Accountable Practices (EMAP) group will be established in target locations and their knowledge and capacity on human/women’s rights increased to further enable preventing violence against women and girls/GBV.

In furtherance of the above objectives, the project aims to identify and engage men allies, women, youths and girls build their capacities through EMAP and EASE specifically during sessions; Gender Discussion Sessions, community sensitization and awareness campaigns, in MMC, Mafa and Jere LGAs in Borno State. The weekly community education and awareness activities in the targets communities to ensure that beneficiaries have increased capacity, skills, and knowledge on five thematic areas- Prevention and response to Gender-based violence, Fundamental Human rights, Nutrition, COVID19 prevention, Water Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). 

Contract Duration: 8 Months 

Location: MMC, JERE and MAFA L.G.A

Reporting To: Finance Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that timely and accurate information is generated and disseminated accordingly to the project team, to inform activity planning and forecasts;
  • Prepare, maintain, organize and file the necessary financial reports and documents for the project
  • Ensure all balance sheet items are reconciled and harmonized on monthly basis.
  • Ensure daily, weekly and monthly cash counts are done and properly documented by non-finance staff
  • Process all payments (cheque and/or cash) to vendors, service providers, and partners in line with GEPaDC policies & donor requirements. Ensure all financial transactions in the state office are appropriately approved, authorized, and administered, in line with GEPaDC & donor policies.
  • Support payment of expenses, including per diem and transport to participants during activities in the field
  • In collaboration with the line manager support the training in Budget/financial management in accordance with GEPaDC’s financial management policies;
  • Coordinate with the team to ensure timely financial and progress reporting is completed and submitted by sub-grantees, reviewed and approved on timely manner and file the reports in sub-grant management file preparation of PV and electronic timesheets
  • Ensure proper documentation and settlement of all advances and retirements
  • Maintain current standing with all mandated tax and registrations, including submission of payments and required reports
  • process all banking activities and ensure that all bank account record is properly maintained
  • ensure timely and appropriate cash flow which matches with operational needs
  • Preparation of budget forecast in line with donor requirement.
  • Reconciliation of bank statement with cash book.
  • Ensure that all costs have adequate prior authorization and approval.
  • Perform any other assign task.

Requirements:

  • BSc/ HND in Accounting, or related field, ICAN, CFA, or ACCA certification is an advantage
  • 2+ years related experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant computer software e.g., SAP.Quick Book.
  • Understanding of accounting and financial processes.
  • Technical know-how on financial report writing
  • Analytical and proven problem-solving skills.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Strategic thinking & time management skill
  • Strong interpersonal & identifiable influencing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work well with management and staff at all levels
  • High level of accuracy, efficiency and accountability
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently without errors.
