We are recruiting internally and externally for the position below:
Job Title: Finance Officer
Location: Borno/Yobe
Duration: 3 months (with possibility of extension)
Objective:
The Finance Officer will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, including budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and compliance with donor requirements and financial regulations. The incumbent will play a key role in ensuring financial accountability, transparency, and efficiency across all programs and activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Planning and Budgeting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, in consultation with program managers and senior management.
- Monitor budget execution and provide regular updates on budget versus actual expenditure.
- Accounting and Bookkeeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and cash books.
- Process financial transactions, including payments, receipts, and journal entries, in accordance with established procedures and controls.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal management and external stakeholders, including donors and government agencies.
- Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements and deadlines.
- Grants Management:
- Manage financial aspects of grants, including budget development, expenditure tracking, and reporting.
- Ensure proper documentation and filing of grant-related financial records.
5. Audit and Compliance:
- Facilitate internal and external audits, ensuring timely submission of required documents and responses to audit queries.
- Monitor compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
6. Capacity Building and Support:
- Provide training and support to staff on financial policies, procedures, and systems.
- Offer guidance to program teams on financial management best practices and donor compliance.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA) is preferred.
- Minimum of Three years of experience in finance and accounting roles, preferably in the NGO or development sector.
- Proficiency in financial management software (QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Knowledge of donor financial regulations and reporting requirements.
