Job Summary:

The Finance and Human Resources Officer will be responsible for managing the financial and human capital resources of The People’s Project. This role combines strategic oversight and day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance, integrity, and alignment with the organization’s mission. The successful candidate will coordinate budgeting, payroll, reporting, benefits administration, recruitment, performance management, and office culture. They will also ensure that all financial systems and HR processes are efficient, transparent, and legally compliant.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management (50%)

  • Maintain accurate, auditable financial systems and ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Oversee day-to-day financial functions, including:
    • Managing accounts receivable and payable.
    • Preparing financial reports and grant documentation.
    • Tracking expenditures and coding them accurately to projects.
    • Managing vendor relationships and procurement documentation.
    • Supporting the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and audit reports.
    • Maintaining internal controls and expense tracking systems.
  • Support external audits and liaise with accountants or consultants.
  • Ensure financial integrity in program implementation and donor reporting.

Human Resources Management (50%)

  • Maintain and update HR policies, employee handbook, and procedures in line with Nigerian labor law and organizational values.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
  • Process payroll, manage employee benefits, and ensure tax and statutory compliance.
  • Administer performance appraisals and support continuous learning and development initiatives.
  • Coordinate staff training, retreats, and wellness initiatives.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture anchored in respect, inclusion, and accountability.
  • Serve as a liaison between leadership and staff to foster transparency and engagement.
  • Support internal communications, including meeting logistics and documentation.
  • Translate HR and finance-related updates for staff and support their queries.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a combined HR and finance role, preferably in the nonprofit or development sector.
  • Strong familiarity with Nigerian employment laws and grant compliance.
  • Experience managing donor funds and financial reporting for NGOs.
  • Proficiency in tools like QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace, and HRIS platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High emotional intelligence, discretion, and ethical judgment.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Certification in CIPM, ICAN, ACCA, or SHRM is an added advantage.
  • Experience managing HR and Finance systems in a multi-stakeholder, cross-cultural environment.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
