Field mobilizer and trainer in risk and disaster management (GRD) At Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation

Introduction

As part of a new Risk and Natural Resources Management project in the South region, Swiss Cooperation is recruiting a Field Mobilizer and Trainer in Risk and Disaster Management (RDM) with skills in risk and disaster management, water, hygiene and sanitation, agronomy, project management, technical training and the development of educational tools. Female candidates are strongly encouraged.

Main responsibilities and functions

1. Knowledge of hazards and preparation for disasters

  • Design and facilitate community workshops on knowledge on GRD, including in schools and with women’s groups;
  • Design and facilitate community vulnerability and capacity assessment (VCA) workshops;
  • Coordinate GRD/Emergency training for CLPC/EIC in intervention areas in partnership with the DGPC/DDPC;
  • Participate in strengthening the DDPC for the establishment/development of early warning systems, evacuation plans, emergency response plans with a differentiated and gender-based approach;
  • Participate in the development of a material prepositioning strategy to respond to emergencies.

2. Support and training on protective works

  • Participate in the development of training on the construction, maintenance and use of risk reduction structures (shelters and protective structures), in particular with women’s associations;
  • Participate in the development of a sector promoting the feminization of traditionally male professions, particularly in construction, with certification (e.g., state diploma) for participants;
  • Participation in the creation of a pool of trainer training courses for GRD and protection works.

Required qualifications

  • The candidate lives and resides in Haiti;
  • University degree in natural sciences, social sciences, or any other training deemed equivalent;
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing DRM projects;
  • Excellent technical knowledge of risk and disaster management and great educational sensitivity;
  • Community work experience related to risk and natural hazard governance in Haiti;
  • Ability to work in a team and manage multi-sector projects;
  • Excellent writing skills and mastery of project management tools;
  • Excellent command of French and Creole (spoken/written);
  • Sense of organization and initiative, autonomy and rigor. Spirit of innovation.

Desired skills

  • The position is based in Port-Salut but requires frequent field travel to rural areas. Demonstrated experience working in remote areas and fragile contexts is an asset;
  • Flexibility, especially for field travel;
  • Being from the southern region is an asset.
