About The Job

The Community Psychosocial Support (PSS) Assistant will support the implementation of community-based psychosocial support activities for flood-affected populations. The role involves providing Psychological First Aid (PFA), facilitating structured psychosocial support sessions, promoting positive coping mechanisms, conducting community awareness activities, identifying individuals with psychosocial and protection concerns, and facilitating referrals to appropriate services.

The successful candidate will work closely with communities, local leaders, health facilities, and protection partners to strengthen psychosocial well-being and community resilience while ensuring that all interventions are delivered in accordance with humanitarian principles, safeguarding standards, and a survivor-centred approach.

Location: Adamawa State (Yola North, Yola-South, Numan, Demsa, Lamurde, Girei and Fufore).
Job Type: Six (6) Months contract

 Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate structured psychosocial support activities for children, adolescents, women, men, older persons, and other vulnerable groups.
  • Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) to individuals experiencing emotional distress.
  • Conduct community outreach and awareness sessions on mental health, psychosocial well-being, stress management, positive coping strategies, protection, GBV prevention, and available support services.
  • Identify individuals requiring specialized psychosocial, mental health, protection, GBV, or child protection services and facilitate safe and confidential referrals.
  • Support the establishment and facilitation of safe spaces and peer support groups where applicable.
  • Conduct home visits and follow-up support for vulnerable individuals and families when required.
  • Work closely with Community Case Workers, Protection Officers, GBV teams, health facilities, and community structures to ensure coordinated service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate activity records and prepare timely reports.
  • Promote inclusion and meaningful participation of women, children, older persons, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups in project activities.
  • Uphold safeguarding, child protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), confidentiality, and humanitarian principles in all interactions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of OND / NCE or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Sociology, Community Development, Public Health, Education, or a related field.
  • Training in Psychological First Aid (PFA), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), counselling, or related areas is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience implementing psychosocial support, protection, GBV, child protection, or community-based humanitarian programmes.
  • Experience working with displaced, flood-affected, or vulnerable populations is highly desirable.
  • Experience facilitating community awareness sessions, group activities, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with referral pathways and humanitarian coordination mechanisms is an advantage.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in local language(s) is an advantage.
