We are seeking a motivated and people-focused Volunteer Community Engagement Officer to support our community mobilization and participation efforts while gaining valuable practical experience in humanitarian community engagement.
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria
Duration: 6 Months (Renewable based on performance and organizational needs)

Position Summary
The Volunteer Community Engagement Officer will support the implementation of community mobilization, participation, and feedback mechanisms across TTHO programs. Working under the supervision of the Programs Manager or Community Engagement Coordinator, the volunteer will assist in community sensitization, stakeholder engagement, and accountability activities to strengthen programs acceptance and impact.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for young professionals seeking practical experience in humanitarian community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
The Volunteer Community Engagement Officer will:
Community Mobilization
- Support community sensitization and awareness activities on TTHO programs.
- Assist in mobilizing community members for assessments, distributions, and activities.
- Facilitate community meetings, focus group discussions, and dialogues.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Support engagement with community leaders, traditional authorities, and local structures.
- Assist in identifying and coordinating with community-based volunteers and focal points.
- Support coordination with local government and community stakeholders.
Accountability & Feedback
- Support the implementation of community feedback and complaints mechanisms.
- Assist in documenting and relaying community feedback to relevant programs teams.
- Participate in community satisfaction surveys and post-distribution monitoring.
Documentation & Reporting
- Support documentation of community engagement activities and outcomes.
- Assist in compiling weekly, monthly, and quarterly community engagement reports.
- Support documentation of success stories, challenges, and lessons learned.
Other Responsibilities
- Participate in coordination meetings and capacity-building sessions.
- Ensure compliance with organizational community engagement and accountability policies.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Experience
- Previous volunteer, internship, or work experience in community engagement or social mobilization is an added advantage.
- Experience working directly with communities in humanitarian or development settings is desirable.
- Knowledge of humanitarian programming will be an added advantage.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong interpersonal and community facilitation skills.
- Good understanding of community mobilization and engagement approaches.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication skills, including local language proficiency (Hausa/Kanuri desirable).
- High level of integrity, cultural sensitivity, and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment.
- Willingness to travel to project locations within Borno State when required.
