Protection without Borders league (POWIB) is an independent youth-led non-governmental organization which operates by principle of non-discrimination, transparency in rendering specialized services, responses and assistance to individuals and families in need. POWIB provide services and assistance in the areas of Child Protection, Health, Education, Gender Based Violence (GBV), Counter-trafficking, Countering Violence Extremism (CVE), Capacity Building of CBOs and CSOs, peacebuilding, data collection and analysis, humanitarian and development research and analysis. Response is delivered due to the negative impact of conflict in affected communities while paying specific attention to the most vulnerable among the affected populace.

Job Description
The Community Engagement Officer will be responsible for facilitating strong relationships with communities, mobilizing local participation, and ensuring that communities are actively involved in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities. The role aims to promote trust, transparency, and accountability between the organization and the communities it serves.
Key Responsibilities Community Mobilization & Participation
- Facilitate community entry processes and establish rapport with local leaders and stakeholders.
- Mobilize and engage community members in all stages of project implementation.
- Support the formation and functioning of community structures such as committees, volunteers, or user groups.
- Ensure inclusive participation, with special attention to vulnerable and marginalized groups (e.g., women, youth, persons with disabilities).
Awareness & Sensitization
- Plan and conduct community sensitization activities, information sessions, and public meetings.
- Disseminate key project messages using appropriate and culturally sensitive methods and languages.
- Gather community feedback and share updates on project activities and timelines.
Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination
- Liaise with community leaders, government representatives, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and local ownership of interventions.
- Represent the organization at community-level coordination meetings and events.
- Collaborate with local partners and organizations working in the same communities.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Provide regular field updates and reports on community dynamics, risks, and perceptions.
- Support the MEAL team in collecting feedback and ensuring that community voices inform program decisions.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and challenges from the field.
Capacity Building
- Support training and mentoring of community members and volunteers.
- Promote knowledge sharing and peer learning among communities and local groups.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Social Work, Sociology, Development
Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in community engagement, mobilization, or development work.
- Strong understanding of participatory approaches and community-based programming.
- Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English, Hausa and local language(s) spoken in the target communities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
- Experience working with rural or underserved communities is an advantage.
