We are seeking a creative and articulate Volunteer Communications Officer to support our visibility, branding, and storytelling efforts while gaining valuable practical experience in humanitarian communications.
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria
Duration: 6 Months (Renewable based on performance and organizational needs)

Position Summary
The Volunteer Communications Officer will support the implementation of communication, visibility, and media activities across TTHO projects. Working under the supervision of the Communications Manager or Program Manager, the volunteer will assist in content creation, social media management, media relations, and documentation of program impact.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for young professionals seeking practical experience in humanitarian communications.
Key Responsibilities
The Volunteer Communications Officer will:
Content Development
- Support the development of written, visual, and multimedia content for program.
- Assist in drafting press releases, newsletters, human-interest stories, and success stories.
- Support photo and video documentation of field activities (with consent protocols observed).
Social Media & Digital Presence
- Assist in managing TTHO’s social media platforms and website updates.
- Support the design of visibility materials (banners, flyers, fact sheets, infographics).
- Monitor and report on communication and social media engagement metrics.
Media & Stakeholder Engagement
- Support coordination with media outlets and external stakeholders.
- Assist in organizing press briefings, events, and visibility activities.
- Ensure donor visibility requirements are met across communication materials.
Documentation & Reporting
- Support documentation of lessons learned, best practices, and case studies.
- Assist in compiling communication reports for internal and donor use.
- Maintain an organized archive of photos, videos, and publications.
Other Responsibilities
- Participate in coordination meetings and capacity-building sessions.
- Ensure compliance with organizational branding and communication guidelines.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Experience
- Previous volunteer, internship, or work experience in communications/media is an added advantage.
- Experience with graphic design or social media management is desirable.
- Knowledge of humanitarian communications will be an added advantage.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with design tools (Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar) is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and social media platforms.
- Strong creativity and storytelling skills.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality, including safeguarding sensitive content.
- Ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment.
- Willingness to travel to project locations within Borno State when required.
Preferred Competencies
Knowledge of:
- Donor visibility and branding guidelines
- Media and public relations
- Photography/videography ethics in humanitarian settings
- Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS)
