 POSITION SUMMARY

Working under the supervision of the Country Director’s, and with technical guidance from the New York team at Columbia Climate School, the Consultant will support activities geared towards convening a global climate focused network of actors to generate national insights and perspective on key climate challenges, gaps in knowledge and desired interventions in Nigeria.

The incumbent will be responsible for facilitating dialogue with relevant stakeholders, design, conduct, and analyze surveys, workshops and producing country-specific report.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Consultant will:

  •  Design and conduct research on climate action or related issues, with government, relevant stakeholder, professionals working in organizations focused on: planning and infrastructure; agriculture; food security; coastal management; transportation; natural resource management; public health; water resource management; finance; disaster risk management; and energy, among other things.
  • Identify a set of regional and country actors that should be tapped for this project.
  • Facilitate workshops with robust discussions in key priority areas most relevant to Nigeria and to bolster potential collaborations.
  • About 1-2 workshops will be conducted, bringing together a range of stakeholders between 10-15 with expertise in priority areas
  • Develop a country-specific report that summarizes the outcomes of the informant interviews and workshop discussions.
  • Recommendations will also be made regarding potential collaborations with Columbia University
  • Organize individual meetings with key stakeholders (government or private sector) who are unable to join workshops and Findings/information added to the report. 

EDUCATION 

an advanced degree, preferably – PhD or graduate Student in climate change, environmental studies, development and Policy and related qualifications

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in conducting independent and unbiased research
  • Strong understanding of Environmental and climate studies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent English oral and written communication skills; and oversee development of comprehensive analytical reports
