Business Development Officer – HomeVida At The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC)

Job Title: Business Development Officer – HomeVida
Reports To: Executive Director, HomeVida
Location: Lagos, Nigeria (with occasional national travel)
Contract Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

The Business Development Officer will play a critical role in driving the financial sustainability and growth of HomeVida by identifying and pursuing funding opportunities, cultivating strategic partnerships, and expanding revenue-generation pathways. The officer will develop grant proposals, sponsorship decks, and commercial partnerships aligned with HomeVida’s mission to use storytelling and film to foster civic values and social change.

This role sits at the intersection of business strategy, media innovation, and social impact, requiring a dynamic individual who is commercially savvy, creative, and impact-oriented.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fundraising & Donor Engagement

  • Identify grant opportunities from international donors, foundations, embassies, and multilateral organizations.
  • Lead the drafting of high-quality proposals, concept notes, and LOIs tailored to donor priorities in civic engagement, governance, youth development, and creative economy.
  • Manage donor reporting, budgeting inputs, and compliance requirements in collaboration with M&E and finance teams.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of donor prospects and funding cycles.

2. Sponsorships & Corporate Partnerships

  • Develop sponsorship packages for HomeVida competitions, productions, and film festivals.
  • Cultivate relationships with corporate brands, film distributors, production houses, and CSR units for mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Identify opportunities for co-branded content, branded storytelling, and cause marketing campaigns.

3. Content Commercialization & Business Innovation

  • Track trends in the entertainment and digital media space for new monetization models (e.g., streaming rights, licensing, crowdfunding, merchandising).
  • Explore partnerships with OTT platforms (e.g., Showmax, Netflix), broadcasters, and creative tech firms.
  • Support packaging and pitching of HomeVida’s films, scripts, and short content for commercial distribution.

4. Strategic Communications & Visibility

  • Work with the communications team to position HomeVida as a thought leader in values-based filmmaking and social storytelling.
  • Drive HomeVida’s presence at industry events, markets, and networking platforms (e.g., AFRIFF, Durban FilmMart, Berlinale Talents).
  • Coordinate digital campaigns and online showcases that appeal to funders and partners.

5. Business Operations & CRM

  • Maintain a funder/stakeholder CRM system and ensure regular engagement and follow-ups.
  • Support planning of fundraising events, investment briefings, or donor cultivation dinners.
  • Contribute to the development of HomeVida’s annual fundraising strategy and track progress against revenue targets.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to support business development across multiple verticals (training, production services, and civic media campaigns).

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Media & Communications, Development Studies, Marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in business development, fundraising, partnerships, or media-related sales.
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing, donor cultivation, and proposal development.
  • Experience working in or around the creative, cultural, nonprofit, or social enterprise sectors is a strong advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent proposal writing and grant development skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and pitch delivery capabilities.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to spot and seize partnership opportunities.
  • Familiarity with donor ecosystems in Africa (Ford, MacArthur, OSIWA, EU, etc.) is an advantage.
  • Understanding of storytelling for impact, civic media, or youth development.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work independently and meet revenue targets.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and donor reporting tools.

Preferred Attributes

  • Strong passion for storytelling, film, and creative impact work.
  • Existing network in donor, media, or CSR circles.
  • Comfort in both boardrooms and grassroots creative spaces.
