Assistant Manager, Communications & Events at the African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank)

African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) was established in Abuja, Nigeria in October, 1993 by African Governments, African private and institutional investors as well as non-African financial institutions and private investors for the purpose of financing, promoting and expanding intra-African and extra-African trade.

The Bank, headquartered in Cairo, the capital of the Arab Republic of Egypt, commenced operations on 30 September, 1994, following the signature of a Headquarters Agreement with the host Government in August, 1994. It has branch offices in Harare, Abuja and Abidjan and will open an East Africa branch office shortly.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Assistant Manager, Communications & Events

Location: Cairo, Egypt
Working time: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Assistant Manager, Events will support the planning, coordination, and execution of Afreximbank’s corporate and strategic events. 
  • Working within the Communications and Events Management team, the incumbent will help deliver engaging, impactful, and brand-consistent events that advance the Bank’s mandate of promoting African trade. 
  • The role involves both logistical execution and strategic coordination, with opportunities to influence the digital and virtual transformation of the Bank’s events.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Coordination:

  • Support the development and implementation of the Bank’s communication strategy with a focus on events.
  • Coordinate the conceptualization, design, and execution of major Bank events, including:
    • Annual General Meetings
    • Afreximbank Trade Finance Seminar (ATFS)
    • Afreximbank Compliance Forum (ACF)
    • Afri-Caribbean Trade & Investment Forum (ACTIF)
    • Babacar Ndiaye Annual Lecture Series
    • Webinars, roadshows, internal events, and third-party engagements.

Execution & Logistics:

  • Oversee end-to-end event logistics: venue management, program coordination, vendor negotiations, invitations, speaker engagement, and guest services.
  • Ensure brand consistency and effective delivery across all elements, including branding, guest management, and exhibitions.
  • Prepare post-event evaluations, performance analytics, and reporting for internal stakeholders.

Internal & External Engagement:

  • Liaise with senior management, external partners, and government officials for high-level coordination.
  • Manage external agencies (event planners, branding agencies, media partners) to execute top-tier events.
  • Coordinate with HR and Internal Communications for staff seminars, training sessions, internal retreats, and cross-departmental initiatives.

Digital & Media Integration:

  • Design and implement creative digital features for interactive and virtual events.
  • Collaborate with social media and digital teams to maximize visibility of events across platforms.
  • Coordinate media coverage, including interviews and scheduling with local and international media.

Budget & Branding Oversight:

  • Manage event budgets, including vendor selection, pricing, and financial oversight.
  • Ensure adherence to the Bank’s corporate brand policy across all events and visual touchpoints.
  • Maintain an image repository and archival system for promotional and historical use.

Innovation & Impact:

  • Research and apply event production best practices to elevate audience experience.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver content, messaging, and digital elements for key initiatives.
  • Coordinate and deliver external virtual events, including online participation by the President or Management.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s and postgraduate Degree in Event Management, Mass Communication, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a leading organization (preferably international), with proven expertise in large-scale, multi-sectoral event management.
  • Hands-on experience in both in-person and virtual event planning and delivery.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills in English or French (knowledge of Arabic or Portuguese is a plus)
  • Cross-cultural awareness and experience working in a pan-African or international environment
  • Deep understanding of branding, media engagement, and stakeholder relationship management
  • Strong digital proficiency and familiarity with virtual event platforms
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work flexible hours during peak event periods.
