Grow Strong Foundation (GSF) is a child-focused women and youth-led non-profit organization established in 2017. GSF is providing humanitarian assistance to Children, IDPs, and other highly vulnerable in collaboration with NHF-OCHA in Northeastern Nigeria. Position: Accountability Officer
Location: Yobe state
Reporting: MEAL Manager
Starting Date: 13- March-2024
Languages Required: English, Hausa
Purpose: To provide support to project staff and ensure that all project activities are in line with attaining set goals and objectives of the project and build their capacity in data management, analysis, and reporting.
The Accountability Officer is responsible for overseeing and maintaining accountability within the organization by developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards. This role involves collaborating with various departments to promote a culture of integrity, transparency, and responsible conduct.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement accountability frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Monitor and assess organizational activities to identify areas of potential risk, misconduct, or non-compliance.
- Conduct regular audits, investigations, or reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to employees on ethical conduct, compliance requirements, and reporting mechanisms.
- Investigate allegations of wrongdoing, misconduct, or violations of policies and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Collaborate with legal counsel, regulatory agencies, and external auditors to address compliance issues and resolve disputes.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports related to compliance activities, incidents, and corrective actions taken.
- Serve as a resource for employees seeking clarification on policies, procedures, or ethical dilemmas.
- Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, industry trends, and best practices in accountability and compliance.
- Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical behavior throughout the organization through communication, training, and recognition programs.
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, law, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional) preferred.
- Proven experience in compliance, risk management, internal audit, or related field, preferably in a regulated industry.
- Strong understanding of laws, regulations, and standards relevant to the organization’s operations (e.g., GDPR, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, HIPAA).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Proficiency in using compliance management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant tools.
Working Conditions:
- The job may require occasional travel to various locations for audits, meetings, or training sessions.
- May be required to work irregular hours to accommodate compliance activities or investigations.
- Office environment with the use of standard office equipment and computer systems.
Essential Criteria
- A university degree in international policy, social science, international development studies or other relevant degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 2 to 3 years of progressively professional and practical experience in the field of Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Experience in facilitation and training in data tools, data collection, compilation, analysis and management of M&E database for effective reporting. ● Demonstrated high level of conceptual and analytical thinking skills.
- Staff management skills and effective leadership
- Ability to maintain expected performance in diverse contexts, potentially challenging environments and physical hardship conditions with limited resources.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively and build relationships at all levels, taking into account cultural and language differences and sensitivities.
- Excellent skills in written and spoken English and effective Report Writing skills
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Office software, emails, internet
