Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi) is an indigenous non-­â€Âprofit affiliate organization of Family Health International (FHI 360), registered in Nigeria in 2009. It aims to provide technical assistance to the government and people of Nigeria in the implementation of public health and development programs.

Background

  • Adolescents & Young Persons (AYPs) especially Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) have vulnerabilities for HIV in Nigeria that are strongly linked with gender inequalities and harmful practices. AGYW are also more likely to engage in risky sexual behaviors compared with older females. As such, AGYW are at comparably higher risks of HIV and appropriate interventions need to be targeted at them.
  • The goal of the AGYW intervention is to reduce the HIV risk and lower the HIV incidence among adolescent girls and young women aged 10-24 years. The vocational skills and provision of start-up grant aims to provide economic empowerment opportunities to indigent Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Anambra state.
  • Hence, the consultants will support the implementation of AGYW intervention and vocational training for pre-selected indigent AGYW in the state. This is intended to empower vulnerable AGYW with income generating skills that will enable them to take decisions that does not pre-dispose them to risky sexual behaviours.

Key Roles
The services of the Consultant working with Anambra AGYW team will include but not limited to the following:

  • Support the identification and assessment of potential beneficiaries.
  • Support the 1,000 beneficiaries in developing their business plans.
  • Review the business plans developed by the 1,000 beneficiaries.
  • Mainstream/Provide weekly SRH and Life Skills education and mentorship for the 1000 indigent girls during the vocational skills training sessions.
  • Monitor and track the attendance of the beneficiaries.
  • Collate data and submit weekly reports of the activity in line with the daily/weekly reports of the beneficiaries.
  • Develop and Submit Monthly Summary forms and Monthly Report of the Activity.
  • Verify and validate the attendance Registers at the different training locations.
  • Support the provision of MPPI, and HTS outreaches in Anambra state where necessary.
  • Any other responsibilities assigned by the AGYW lead for the PR and SR.

Requirements

  • B.Tech, B.Sc or HND in relevant fields with 3 to 5 post NYSC experience providing services to PLHIVs and AYPs in Nigeria. 
  • Possession of a post graduate degree in a related field is an added advantage.
  • Proven experience in facilitating technical trainings, adherence counseling and mentorship is required.
  • Excellent ability to communicate and maintain productive relations with the team; resourcefulness, flexibility, and ability to work in a fast changing and challenging environment.

Reporting line:

  • The Consult will report to the state AGYW lead.
