All for Peace and Dignity (APADE) is an international not-for-profit, non-governmental organization, registered under Canadian law in 2014 and Nigeria government in 2021. Our mission is to work with vulnerable people in poverty and distress to improve their well-being and together create a positive change. APADE’s activities focus on emergency, early recovery, resilience, and sustainable development for all people in dire need, regardless of religious, political, or ethnic affiliation, while advocating for peace and dignity for all. APADE in collaboration with WFP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MASTER CARD FOUNDATION is to implement a project in Northeast Nigeria (Adamawa State). The aim is to strengthen local food systems and create job opportunities for young women and men through an inclusive agribusiness value chain. This initiative aligns with WFP’s objectives of strengthening local food systems and creating job opportunities for young women and men, transforming lives, and enhancing private sector engagement to achieve zero hunger, by promoting financial inclusion and empowering youth economically.

 

In this context, APADE is seeking to recruit a suitable, competent, and dedicated candidate for a job opportunity to fill the position of Finance Assistant.  The Finance Assistant supports the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, including processing financial transactions, ensuring their accurate recording in the accounting system, managing cash and bank transactions, and supporting financial reporting. The incumbent contributes to ensuring full compliance of financial processes with organizational policies, donor regulations

 

DETAILS OF THE JOB:

Job Title: Finance  Assistant

Location: Adamawa State, North East Nigeria.

Duty Station: Yola Office

Department: Finance

Project Duration: 6 months.

Reports To:  Finance Officer

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure all payments are supported by proper documentation and proper authorization is obtained prior to releasing payments.
  • Update cashbooks and ledgers on a daily basis to reflect the actual status of cash and bank balances.
  • Prepare and verify invoices submitted for payment, matching supporting documentation and ensuring the use of adequate project codes.
  • Enter transactions into the accounting software accurately and maintain up-to-date records.
  • Manage petty cash and staff cash advances, ensuring proper reconciliation and clearance.
  • Prepare bank payments and liaise with banks for timely processing of transactions.
  • Monitor bank balances and assist the Finance Manager in maintaining sufficient funds.
  • Implement cash management procedures to ensure the highest control and security of monetary resources.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Prepare monthly bank and cash reconciliations.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closure activities.
  • Prepare amortizations of prepaid expenses and track prepaid benefits.
  • Support in the preparation of monthly salary projectization and payroll
  • Assist in analyzing actual expenditure versus approved budget.
  • Review monthly project expenses and revenue transactions to ensure correct account codes and project codes are used.
  • Monitor expenses against approved budgets.
  • Assist in budget preparation, review, and consolidation
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations and organizational financial policies.
  • Maintain audit-ready financial documentation and records.
  • Assist during audits by supplying necessary supporting documents.
  • Implement audit recommendations and track follow-up actions
  • Scan financial documents and attach them to the accounting system.
  • Provide general administrative support related to budget preparation and donor reporting.
  • Coordinate with field offices on financial and budget issues.
  • Provide training support on administrative and financial issues within assigned work areas.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS,

  • Bachelor’s degree/ HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA – part-qualified or in view) will be an added advantage
  • Years of relevant experience:  At least 2 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, or audit roles
  • Experience working in NGO or development sector is desirable

SKILLS AND COMPETENCE

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting and reconciliation processes
  • Good understanding of internal controls and compliance requirements
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of Hausa or other local languages is an added advantage.
